Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The order of these signs is not indicated and may not be complete. This sign relates to pilot services established by the NSW Colonial Government in 1859 to assist the safe passage of ships along the east coast. The Ballina Pilot Station was located at Shaws Bay which had a cottage for the pilot and additional cottages for assistant boatmen. When the Richmond River Light was constructed in 1879 the pilots and lighthouse operator roles functioned together.
