Description
English: This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 on 17 December, shows wildfires ongoing in Haut-Mbomou Prefecture in the Central African Republic (CAR). CAR is a landlocked country in Central Africa. It has great natural potential in terms of arable land suitable for agriculture, pasture, and rangelands, as well as various forests types. These natural resources are threatened by unsustainable practices (e.g. slash-and-burn agriculture, firewood extraction, etc.). Numerous efforts have been made in recent years to reduce the impacts of these practices: although the Global Forest Watch website includes more than 31,000 fire alert, the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service indicates that the fire activity in 2020 has been lower than the 2003–2019 average. The Copernicus Sentinel satellites deliver free and open data that can be used to monitor wildfires and their impact on land, vegetation and air quality.

GMES dedicated data and GMES service information are provided to users without any express or implied warranty, including as regards quality and suitability for any purpose.
