Text Appearing Before Image: inger led atthe back door. The formergrabbed the gun of a guard thatstood near, and jerked so hardthat the guard suddenly lettinggo, Porter fell flat, but was on his feet in a moment. Bensinger caughtthe sentinel who was disarmed and held him perfectly quiet. Anotherenemy was in the corner of the yard, and, seeing the rush, brought hisgun up, but before he could take aim, Porters musket had covered him,and he was emphatically and briefly warned that any movement wouldforfeit his life. The third guard in the back yard was at once overpow-ered and knocked down, though not seriously injured, and in a momentthe victory was completely won in this quarter. It was time, for mattershad not gone as well in the front yard. Knight and Brown went down the stairway as softly as cats, but thepassage behind them was filled for a little time with those who were tomake the attack at the back door, which left them without support, twomen against four, and the latter armed. But they did not for a moment
