| Description |
English: Old windmill of Hopsten-Staden, Kreis Steinfurt, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The smock mill was built in 1850 by Johann Heinrich Uphaus and Eylert Bergmann and in use until around 1950. Some restauration work was done in 1979. In 1994 Friedrich Hörning bought the ruin and restored the mill. Today this cultural heritage monument is the centre of the so called „Windmühlensiedlung“ in Hopsten-Staden.
Deutsch: Hopstener Windmühle, heute Zentrum der Windmühlensiedlung von Hopsten-Staden, Kreis Steinfurt, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland. Die Holländer- oder Turmwindmühle wurde 1850 von dem Colon Johann Heinrich Uphaus und dem Instrumentenmacher Eylert Bergmann, beide aus Hopsten, als Kornwindmühle errichtet. Ursprünglich hatte sie vier Flügel und wurde als Windmühle betrieben. Im ersten Viertel des 20. Jahrhunderts erhielt sie jedoch einen Motor, sodass die Flügel überflüssig wurden. Die Mühle war bis etwa 1950 in Betrieb, danach verfiel sie allmählich. Um diesen Prozess zu stoppen, ließ der damalige Besitzer, die Erbengemeinschaft Schwienheer, 1979 eine provisorische Renovierung vornehmen. 1994 erwarb Friedrich Hörning die Mühlenruine und restaurierte das denkmalgeschützte Bauwerk. Heute ist es das Wahrzeichen der direkt am Ortskern von Hopsten gelegenen Windmühlensiedlung in der Bauerschaft Staden.
