Summary[edit]

Description
English: Window frame - Iran, Tehran (?) - c. 1880-1890 - Louvre - MAO 682 - Stone paste, painted and modelled underglaze decoration.

The cartel at the exhibition "The Empire of Roses" says ; " The carved reliefs produced under Qajar rule drew on ancient works produced during the period of the Achemenid rulers ( c. 550-c.330 BC) . They adorned palaces and opulent homes. This interest in Iran's prestigious ancient world is reflected in the choice of technique and iconography. The window frame displayed here shows another facet of this fashion : each tile is adorned with a portrait of an ancient ruler"
