| Description |
English: Withypool and Hawkridge: west from Sparrow Lane. The earthwork in the field on the right is probably an adit or collapsed shaft associated with the unsuccessful Blackland Iron Mine. It was last worked to any extent in the period 1875-1881 by the Exford Iron Co Ltd with adits driven at SS841369; the mine was investigated by Canadian Royal Engineers in 1942 but the ore was unsuitable for steel making, as it was found to be contaminated with copper. The land on the horizon is Withypool Common |
