Description

These are two of the patent drawings for the first design of a wobble board known to have been patented.

The inventor was Bernard L. Coplin of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The 1957 U.S. patent for this device was applied for in 1954. Its patent number is 2,803,461. The patent includes six drawings.

A case could be made for calling any of four earlier devices the first known patented wobble board, but that claim depends on a definition that neglects to require a wobble board to be something on which a user can balance all of his or her weight. This issue is elaborated on at Wikimedia Commons' Image Description Page of the patent drawings of one of those four precursors to the wobble board, at which there are also links to drawings of the other three. The four patents were applied for in 1951, 1925, 1923 and 1892.
