Notes

Ligeti was first in Italy between 1845 and 1848, and studied with Markò The Elder in Florence between 1846 and 1848, and before that he traveled to Rome, Naples and Munich to perfect his art. The painting can therefore be dated to 1845-46. This painting recalls the early years of his career before he was radically influenced by Markò the Elder, so certainly before 1850.
