[edit]
Description
English: Worcester Bar Stop Lock, Gas Street Basin, Birmingham This was at the northern terminus of the Worcester and Birmingham Canal when it was built in the early 1790s. The stop lock (now permanently open) on was not built until an Act of Parliament enforcement in 1815. The owners of the Birmingham Canal beyond refused to have a junction to link the canals, and the merchandise had to be physically carried from one boat to another across what became known as the Worcester Bar. The cast iron bridge is a replica of a 19th century design from the Horseley Iron Works in Tipton. Gas_Street_Basin
