Summary[edit]

Description
English: 1898 cartoon depicting "The World According to Kruger". Paul Kruger, the President of the South African Republic (or Transvaal), believed the world was flat. Joshua Slocum, an American sailor, was attempting to become the first man to circumnavigate the world solo. When Slocum was presented to Kruger during his stopover in South Africa, the President declared such an undertaking "Impossible! Impossible!" Slocum recalled the incident fondly in his memoir of the journey around the world.
