Description
Deutsch: Wuppertal, katholischer Friedhof Hochstraße, Hochkreuz in der Mitte der den Friedhof vom Tor her in voller Länge durchziehenden Magistrale, zugleich Grabstätte des ersten Pfarrers der den Friedhof tragenden Gemeinde, der kurz vor der Eröffnung verstorben war und auf dessen Initiative auch der Bau der Pfarrkirche, der heutigen Basilica minor und Dekanatskirche St. Laurentius zurückging, um die herum aber nicht mehr wie in früheren Zeiten bestattet werden durfte, weshalb man aus dem Tal auf den Berg ziehen musste, wo gerade erst die reformierte und die lutherische Gemeinde ihre Friedhöfe in direkter Nachbarschaft neu angelegt hatten.
Wie der im Postament eingelassenen Steinplatte zu entnehmen ist, stiftete die Grabstätte Dem hochwürdigen Herrn / FRANZ STEPHAN OBERRHE / geb. zu Lüntenbeck 1768 / Pfarrer in Elberfeld 1816 / + 23. März 1843 / die dankbare Gemeinde / R.I.P..
