| Description |
English: Yamunotri ( यमुनोत्री) is the source of the Yamuna River. It is situated at an altitude of 3,293 metres above sea level in the Garhwal Himalayas.The actual source, a frozen lake of ice and glacier (Champasar Glacier) located on the Kalind Mountain at a height of 4,421 m above sea level, about 1 km further up, is not frequented generally as it is not accessible; hence the shrine has been located on the foot of the hill. the temple remain open from may to first week of November that it is closed on the day of Diwali. To reach main temple one has to trek about 6kms on a single trail in between dense forest and rugged peak. trekking can be done by walking or by mule or palki. |
