| Description |
English: Yr Offis Fawr - General Office This was the office of the general manager of Dinorwig Quarries. Between 1814 and 1860 management was in the hands of Gruffydd Ellis, a local man noted for his abilities as a geologist and engineer. During his time the labour force grew from 300 to 2,400. After him came a succession of outsiders - Col. Wyatt, Walter Warwick Vivian, W H Brinckman and Ernest Neele, none of whom had any experience of quarrying and few man management skills. This led to a period of stormy industrial relations. From 1924 onwards, with the appointment of Joni Lloyd, local men again became general managers, and industrial disputes became a thing of the past. |
