Notes Im Auftrag des Hamburgers Johann Gerhard Reinhard Andreae (1724-1793) unternahm Johann Ulrich Schellenberg (1709-1795) mit seinem Sohn Johann Rudolf Schellenberg (1740-1806) im Juli 1769 eine Reise über den Gotthard. Bei der vorliegenden Radierung handelt es sich um das achte Blatt der zehnteiligen Folge von Gotthard-Ansichten, die Johann Ulrich Schellenberg nach auf der Reise gefertigten Zeichnungen radierte. Es erschienen zwei Ausführungen der Blattfolge, die erste wurde von einem vierseitigen Text "Kurze Erläuterungen über die zehn Kupferlatten, wovon 9 auf dem Gotthardweg gemacht sind" begleitet. Die Blätter der zweiten Ausführung sind im Format grösser. Zu den genauen Unterschieden zwischen den zwei Ausführungen siehe Quensel und Weber
