Height of Mt Hadley

I'd like to know why Mount Hadley looks like 1,000 feet high on the image rather than a 14,000 feet mountain? I'm far from being a conspiracy theorist, just curious. What is the explanation for that phenomenon? 212.186.0.174 07:34, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

212.186.0.174, it's a combination of factors. Primary is the lack of atmosphere on the Moon, meaning there is no atmospheric effect or haze to let us judge distance like we would on Earth. This also means there is no atmosphere to filter sunlight, meaning everything is bathed in very even and very starkly defined light and shadow. Another is the relative lack of terrain features. Related to both of these is our inherent unfamiliarity of the terrain there, meaning we're individually less equipped to judge the terrain. This can even happen on Earth: if you're approaching a large terrain feature that you're completely unfamiliar with, it's very easy to misjudge its size, even with atmospheric haze to assist. — Huntster (t @ c) 12:35, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
