As a Dutch I (slghlty) object to the phrase "German Empire" in this map. Can it be replaced by the phrase "Holy Roman Empire". 85.147.229.7 22:06, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sweden[edit]

Sweden didn't exist as a unified kingdom in 998, when it was divided between the two Germanic tribes Suiones and the Geats. The country was unified first around the 12th century. /85.226.55.212 22:06, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The map is needlessly simplifying much of the state structure in the Early Middle Ages. For example, the rather losely defined confederation of the Holy Roman Empire is portrayed as if it was a unitary state. And to speak of a clearly defined Swedish kingdom before the 1200s at the earliest is very questionable.
