This aircraft is an FC-2, not an FC-2 W2.

[edit]

This aircraft is actually a Fairchild FC-2, not an FC-2 W2; i.e. it has a Wright J-5 Whirlwind engine, not a Pratt & Whitney Wasp. Since an FC-2 W2 is Wasp-engined by definition, the EAA AirVenture Museum which owns this aircraft has somehow mislabeled it. (I've sent them a correction.) Close examination of their description of the aircraft and its specifications makes it clear that the aircraft has a J-5 Whirlwind; the Wasp is never even mentioned, and the weight given for the aircraft is much too small for the Wasp version. Furthermore, close examination of this image and other photos of the aircraft shows that the size and visible details of the engine match the J-5 Whirlwind and not the Wasp, and the aircraft carries prominent "Wright Aircraft Engines" placards on its nose. Searching for the aircraft's registration in Google Books also turns up references to it having a J-5, but no such references for a Wasp.

Thus, I will correct the image description accordingly.
