Cannonballs lodged in the façade of a building in Lille, France. Do not mistake them for the decorative [[cartouche]]s that you can also see in the picture. The cannonballs are the black dots randomly "placed" around the windows. Nothing "decorative" in that. 35000 red hot cannonballs fell on the walls of Lille during the siege of 1792 by the Austrians. From French Wikipedia: "Boulets de canon autrichiens encastrés dans des façades de maisons [[Lille|lilloise]] («Rang du beau regard» prés de la place du théâtre en l'occurence), vestige d'un ancien siège de la ville.
