Copyright[edit]
User:Shyam applied a copyright based on a similar image I uploaded to the English Wikipedia. I see it was a good faith edit. However, Shyam did not realize that these two images were not the same. These images are different derivatives of an original, fully copyrighted work. They differ in both cropping and resolution (I've increased the resolution on this particular derivative).
The Wikipedia derivative had a GDFL copyright. However, when I uploaded this new derivative in Commons I listed it as "Attribution ShareAlike 2.5" - though without a proper Commons tag. Shyam added this using his best judgment, but I've replaced it with one more appropriate to the copyright I listed under "Permissions" when I uploaded it. The copyright from the English (or any other) Wikipedia wouldn't apply because the two images are not the same, and this image is not a derivative of the Wikipedia image but rather a new derivative from the same source, a fully copyrighted work. And this particular derivative I have chosen to give away with a copyright that differs from the other derivative. Sorry for the confusion. Rklawton 19:30, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
