Image has been digitally processed

[edit]

A comparison with the source image at the Christie's sale (faithfully copied to this file) shows that this image has been digitally processed. The background is lighter, the highlights brighter and the colors more saturated. In addition the image appears less diffuse.

All this may perhaps be an artefact of the colour space sRGB used by the uploader. Whatever, it presents issues of authenticity. Israels' paintings simply don't look like this. His palette was always subdued and colour used sparingly. The backgrounds to his paintings are generally dark. In this case it should be a greenish gray, rather than the pinkish grey of this image.

I am surprised the uploader of the image can have been satisfied with his result. JVollenhoven (talk) 08:45, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
