Phase 1: Lightroom

[edit]

Done in this order. To make these settings I sometimes drop completely the saturation level and work in black and white for this phase (why? don't know, personal tastes maybe :)) when I finish I gives it to its original level. To not too much alterate the contrast, I always begin by a and b:

a. exposition +2.48
b. Dark tones -11
c. Local shadows -10
d. Clear tones -17
e. Local highlights -10
f. Clarity +20
g. Shadows +15
h. Black +20
Now I restored the saturation
i. Luminance noise reduction +20
j. I turn on the box "Delete chromatic aberations"
k. With the tool paintbrush, I apply more noise reduction (+27) on the background.
l. Crop

Result of the phase 1 :

[edit]

[1] The file is already acceptable IMO, if it was the definitive version I would also certainly add some sharpening with the tool paintbrush on the insect and bud.

Phase 2: Photoshop

[edit]
a. I check if the color profile for the image is sRGB, if not I attribute it this profile.
b. Vibrancy +50
c. Saturation +2
d. High-pass filter, I attenuated to about 15% or 30% of it's capacity (it depends images, here I don't remenber exactly :) )
e. Contrast +33
f. Luminosity -10 (I find it's a bit too bright, I too much added exposition with lightroom maybe ?!?)
g. With the tool lasso I add a sharpness filter on the insect body and on the bud (not on the the wings because I don't want to add some noise on its). I attenuated this filter to 40% of it's capacity.

Result of the phase 2 :

[edit]

[2] The file is again already acceptable IMO, but I want always more so...

Phase 3: PhotoZoom Pro

[edit]
a. Save the result of the phase 2 in TIFF format.
b. Upscaling to 200% or 300%
c. Save the result in TIFF format.

Result of the phase 3 :

[edit]

[3] Of course not usable in the state. The reason is of this phase is I can add sharpening in the image without add noise when downsampled (see phase 4).

Phase 4: Lightroom

[edit]
a. Open the result of the Phase 3
b: Temperature a bit warmer +6
c. Cloning out some burn flash reflections
d: Contrast +12
e. Sharpening +60
f. With the tool paintbrush, I apply more noise reduction (+27) on the background.
g. Downsampling to the orginal size (3412*2437)

Result of the phase 4 :

[edit]

[4] Acceptable in this state. However my last version is this one a bit downsampled to (3000*2143) to avoid the little areas a bit noisy. -- Christian Ferrer 12:36, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
