This is bullshit. The quality has nothing to do with the file format. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 17:38, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Don't you see these compression artefacts? That wouldn't occur if the file was in the PNG or SVG format. --Leyo 17:42, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If the picture had a higher resolution you would not see the artefacts. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 18:17, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Even if there were no compression artefacts in the original picture, the mediawiki software would create them when generating thumbnails or other scaled-down versions. --NEUROtiker  18:23, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So the picture has to be deleted because the mediawiki software is crap. That's a good reason. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 18:26, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
No. It should be replaced because the JPG format is not suited for this kind of images. The problem lies not only within the mediawiki software. Every modification (e.g. scaling) of a JPG leads to a loss of information and thus quality because it has to be decompressed for editing and recompressed. Taken together with the high contrasts usually present in diagrams this process can easily lead to compression artifacts. --NEUROtiker  18:37, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Pictures are (unfortunately) primarily meant to illustrate articles and not to be used elsewhere. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 19:00, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
The poor quality is also visible on this website. --Leyo 19:05, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
