I think this image needs to be mirrored horizontally. As it is, it just doesn't match the aerial view at Google Maps at all. The tower is on the left of the church portal. The image cannot have been taken from the Pont Neuf and thus doesn't show the Quai du Louvre (if it had been taken from there, there would be other buildings in front of the church). I believe it has been taken from the Rue Rivoli, and the Louvre would be just off the right edge of the flipped image. Lupo 09:36, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ouch. See also Image:Paris-in-1981-118.jpg. Well, I also saw Image:Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois.jpg and you seem to be right, the image is mirrored. What puzzles me is the fact that I have scanned the pictures from paper, not from negative, so mirroring was not my mistake... And I am trying to work out if it is possible that these images have got somehow mirrored during the photographic developping 27 years ago. And exactly those two... hm... on the other hand, I cannot be definite, but I dont think that he has played with mirrors on purpose, because he seemingly made a documental photography archive... So, I really believe that the mistake has happened in the photo lab... And maybe other images have to be also investigated for such unintentional mirroring, sadly I myself am absolutely unable to help here... And yes, please upload the mirrored image over this one, keeping misleading photos is a nonsense... Spiritia 10:25, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm slowly going through all of them to add geolocations. These two are so far the first and only ones where I noticed an inconsistency. Lupo 10:36, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, Image:Saint Germain l'Auxerrois, Paris 01.JPG has been taken from about the same spot. Image:StGermainL'Auxerrois.JPG was taken from about the same angle, but somewhat closer. Lupo 10:38, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I googled this place: here are some other images from various angles, which imply that maybe the discussed one is not so false...

How do you think? Spiritia 10:42, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh gosh. Number #4 is a dead giveaway: there's a building on the left of the church that has a very similar facade! That's the solution. You're right, the image is not mirrored at all, but it doesn't show the church. It only shows the church tower and the building to its left. The church portal is hidden behind the building at the right. The photo was taken from about here, on the Quai du Louvre. Ok, sorry for the confusion! Lupo 11:03, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, thank you very much for your geolocalisation work over the images, I highly appreciate it :-) (and should learn how you do it for my shots throughout Bulgaria...) Spiritia 11:21, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is not Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois church but Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois church tower and the Mairie du 1er arrondissement. The church and the mairie look very much like each other. The church is on the right hand side and can hardly be seen. Octave.H (talk) 08:02, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
