Description
L'Amour se faisant un arc de la massue d'Hercule 1750
Marbre
L'œuvre fut commandée par le directeur des Bâtiments du Roi Philibert Orry en 1740. Bouchardon, accaparé par l'exécution de la fontaine de Grenelle, ne commença les études qu'en 1745. Le travail du marbre dura de juillet 1747 à mai 1750. La statue, montrée dans le salon d'Hercule au château de Versailles, déplut au roi et à la Cour qui ne goûtèrent pas le style du sculpteur, fidèle au modèle vivant. On railla cet Amour "portefaix", exilé ensuite à Choisy puis à Saint-Cloud avant d'être admis au Louvre sous la Restauration.
