Description
Deutsch: Eingang zum nördlichen Bahnsteig im U-Bahnhof 49. Straße an der BMT Broadway Line in Manhattan. Diese Station wurde im Oktober 1973 versuchsweise modernisiert. Dabei wurden dem Zeitgeschmack entsprechend rote Klinker und Fußbodenbelag aus Granit aufgebracht. Dazu kam indirekte Beleuchtung und schallabsorbierende Deckenverkleidung. Die Ölkrise ließ jedoch keine weiteren Umbau-Experimente zu, und so ist dieser Bahnhof bis heute ein Einzelstück geblieben.
English: Entrance to the northbound platform of the 49th Street station at the BMT Broadway Line, Manhattan. This station underwent an experimental renovation program in October 1973, featuring contemporary red glazed brick walls, granite flooring, indirect lighting and soundproof ceiling. However, the upcoming oil crisis did not allow such modernization experiments any longer, and therefore this station remained somewhat unique.
