Dear P. Your map was inspired by the Gallus Anonymus's fairytales ... still I've just add other POV to your map. BTW this map contradicts even the Boleslaw I of Poland article: In 1002 Bolesław annexed present-day Moravia, and in 1001 or 1003, parts of present-day Slovakia. (parts = several border castle between the Morava and Vag river) Regards --Fz22 20:30, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gallus Anonymus work is an incoherent source:

  • he invented several phantom character.
  • he wrote St Stephen with his "father in law" Mieszko (:)) established the Hungarian-Polish border near the Danube.
  • he also wrote about a "King" Levente, son of Stephen entroned by Boleslaus ... :)

+ Not even a single Hungarian source from the 11th century reports such a border fluctuation ... I think at least this last statement deserves a footnote on the map --Fz22 18:01, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that including sources on which map was based - at least on image description page, would be very helpful and could help to avoid situations like this in future --Leafnode 18:23, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately they are unavoidable I think ... But this is a wiki defect. My suggestion would be to add several version of the same file/article/anything you like to reflect the different POVs ... but this contradicts one of the wikipedia's main concept ...
So including sources or not will not resolve anything. A bunch of historians are led to the conclusion that Gallus A. is a reliable source, the opponents will contradict them ... thus we could overwrite each other's maps ad infinitum ... :(
Not really. If this map would be described as "Polish borders according to GA" it would be fine I think --Leafnode 20:10, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
naming is not the main problem here. This map for instance is also part of the History of Slovakia article. For a normal reader would suggest that a state entity called Slovaczyzna existed in the region between 960-1035 wich is a strong POV pushing. Even we have another version of the map, with another POV, that reader possible will not see it at all, just beacase it was carefully stowed away. But if the map would contain a visible reference number would serve as an invitation: "come and see me from another POV" ... but wikipedia's maps were not designed in this way ... therefore we have to add as many POVs we can ... do you see what i mean? :) --Fz22 08:28, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing POV here - names and borders in this map are clearly sourced: http://ingner.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/boleslaw_chrobry_mapa.jpg PANONIAN (talk) 22:39, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There is a difference in how "Borders in 1025" are drawn and that part should be corrected.Volunteer Marek (talk) 14:52, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, seems that source says that these were borders from 999-1018, not from 1025: http://ingner.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/boleslaw_chrobry_mapa.jpg Perhaps original uploader can fix that? PANONIAN (talk) 17:48, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think the confusion stems from the fact that the map has been used in two different ways on various Wiki projects. One is "Piast Poland at its greatest extent" (which would be 1018) and the other one is "Piast Poland at end of Chrobry's rule" (which would be 1025). There should probably be two versions, one for each year.
However, I'm not sure if the original uploader is still active and myself, I'm pretty bad with dealing with these png files. Is there any way you could fix the problem and reupload updated version(s)?Volunteer Marek (talk) 19:29, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I can change this file, but, as I see original uploader is still active: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Poznaniak I usually do not like to change maps created by other people without their permission, so I will ask him to change file or to give me permission that I change it instead. Inacurate border between Poland and Moravia[edit]

There is strange border between these two countries on this map. Olomouc is part of Moravia. --Kirk (talk) 21:46, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
