English: Annaghdown in County Galway, Ireland, was founded as a monastic site according to tradition by St. Brendan of Clonfert in the 6th century, was an episcopal seat from the 12th until the 14th century when it was forcibly joined with the archdiocese of Tuam. The remaining ruins of the cathedral are from the 15th century (but with a 12th-century east window) from a time where the community still fought for an independent diocese. In the 18th century, the church continued to be used by the Church of Ireland as a parish church.
