മലയാളം: ഓണം മലയാളികളുടെ ദേശീയോത്സവമാണ്‌. ലോകത്തിന്റെ നാനാഭാഗത്തുമുള്ള മലയാളികൾ ജാതിമത ഭേദമന്യേ ഈ ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.ഓണം സംബന്ധിച്ച് പല ഐതീഹ്യങ്ങളും ചരിത്രരേഖകളും നിലവിലുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ഓണം ആത്യന്തികമായി ഒരു വിളവെടുപ്പുത്സവമാണെന്ന് കരുതിപ്പോരുന്നു. ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിലെ അത്തം നക്ഷത്രം മുതൽ തുടങ്ങുന്ന ഓണാഘോഷം തിരുവോണം നാളിൽ പ്രാധാന്യത്തോടെ ആഘോഷിക്കുകയും ചതയം നാൾ വരെ നീണ്ടു നിൽക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

English: Onam is the largest festival in the Indian state of Kerala. It falls during the first month of the Malayalam calendar which is Chingam (August–September) and marks the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali. Lord Vishnu was pleased to grant Mahabali his wish. Also, by the boon of Vishnu, Bali will be the next, that is the eighth Indra (King of Devas) (Purandara is the current Indra) during the time of the eighth Manu, Savarni Manu. The festival lasts for ten days and is linked to many elements of Kerala's culture and tradition. Intricate flower carpets i.e Pookalam, elaborate banquet lunch i.e Onam Sadya, snake boat races, Puli Kali, Kalaripayattu and the Kaikottikkali dance all play a part in the festival. And it can be undoubtedly said that these elements constitute the diversity, colorfulness and richness that no other festival can claim in this world.

தமிழ்: ஓணம் இந்தியாவின் கேரளா மாநிலத்தில் ஆண்டுதோறும் கொண்டாடப்படும் அறுவடைத் திருநாள் ஆகும். மலையாளிகளின் பண்பாட்டில் இது ஒரு முக்கியமான திருவிழாவாகும். இது மலையாள ஆண்டில் சிங்கம் மாதத்தில் வருகிறது. இது முதன்மையாக ஒரு அறுவடை நாளாக இருந்தாலும் மலையாள-இந்து புராணக்கதைகளுடன் தொடர்புபடுத்தப்படுகிறது. இது கேரளாவில் எல்லா சாதி, மதங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களாலும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.
