English: Vickers was a major British engineering and armaments company. First known from 1828 as Naylor, Vickers and Company; as Vickers, Sons and Company from 1867; Vickers, Sons and Maxim (VSM) from 1897 when it took over Maxim-Nordenfelt; Vickers-Armstrongs from 1927 when it took over Armstrong-Whitworth. It was broken up in the 1960s and 1970s and the name survives today in Vickers Defence Systems Ltd.
