English: A diaphragm arch is an arch inside a building which supports a section of wall that can be seen from both sides. Most of the time these arches are transversal but they can be disposed like ribs in a rib vault particularly in gothic architecture. In terms of function, it

supports a ceiling, a roof framing or, along with three other arches, a crossing tower
strengthens several tranverse barrel vaults
(sometimes) separates the chancel from the nave of a church.

As the german word "Schwibbogen" seems to name several things according to the german wikipedia, including maybe the diaphragm arch : the word diaphragm arch can't be used to refer to an outside arch between two buildings.
Chancel arches are not necessarily diaphragm arches.

Un arc triomphal peut être diaphragme mais pas nécessairement.
