English: 19th century engraving of a Crosskill roller, invented about 1840/41 by William Crosskill of Beverley, Yorkshire, England. Original comment from source (1862 London Expo catalogue): "The Trustees of W. Crosskill's improved patent self-cleaning clod-crusher and roller. Awarded the special gold medal, 37 sovereigns, and 2 silver medals by the Royal Agricultural Society of England. Price £16-10s. or with travelling wheels £18-10s." Notes: Crosskill's clod crusher was presented at several other UK shows before, e.g. at the 1851 Great Exhibition. Crosskill had already sold nearly 2500 clod crushers by 1850. |
