This image shows a flag, a coat of arms, a seal or some other official insignia produced by the United States Army Institute of Heraldry. It is in the public domain but its use is restricted by Title 18, United States Code, Section 704 [1] and the Code of Federal Regulations (32 CFR, Part 507) [2], [3]. Permission to use these images in the USA for most commercial purposes must be obtained from The Institute of Heraldry prior to their use.

Blazon

  • Description[1]: Azure, upon a Greek sword, in scabbard bendwise, the helmet of Pallas Or. A shield of flag blue displaying the device of the Military Academy in gold.

Symbolism

  • The emblem consists of the helmet of Pallas Athene, which has for centuries been the symbol of wisdom and learning, over a Greek sword, the symbol of the military profession. The two together typify the military and educational functions of the Academy.

Background

  1. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the U.S. Military Academy Detachment of Troops on 1923-04-23.
  2. The insignia was redesignated on Oct 1970 for wear by the Staff and Faculty, U. S. Military Academy.

  1. ↑ This Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by the Troop Units, Staff and Faculty of the Military Academy, NOT the Cadets.
