Description |
English: The Villa Paterno ( now Villa Faggella ) is a residential building of Naples site in the gloomy Tozzole, a side street of the new Via San Rocco.
Not many know that this villa, located in the Piscinola district, was purchased in 1793 by the celebrated Parisian banker Hilaire Rene De Gas, ie the one who gave birth to the father of the famous painter Edgar Degas. Rene De Gas ( because this was the real name ), was a famous French banker, fled from Paris at the time of the revolution, because it was deployed in support of the real and so, fortunately, managed to repair the Kingdom of Naples, where he founded its own bank. Rene married a beautiful noblewoman Neapolitan and had several children, including Pierre August, who migrated age in Paris, founded in that place a branch of his father's bank; from her union with a Parisian born the famous impressionist painter Edgar De Gas, which was many times guest in his grandfather's country villa in San Rocco ( the family townhouse, however, was at Calata Trinita Maggiore in Naples, where today a in remembrance plaque). A Capodimonte Degas was often a guest of his grandfather, especially to study the masterpieces of the Royal Palace of Capodimonte and the frescoes of the catacombs of St. Gennaro. The French artist had learned, also, the first notions of painting and drawing their own in Naples, at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Joseph Mancinelli, Camillo Guerra and Gabriel Smargiassi, replaced the Pitloo in landscape professorship. In the San Rocco country villa, Edgar withdrew his grandfather in a famous painting and then painted a famous view of the San Rocco valley, the Castel Sant 'Elmo in the background, exposed in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. Also in the villa of San Rocco Edgar he withdrew his grandfather, then eighty-seven. It is an oil on canvas preserved in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and dated "1857 Capodimonte". It was owned by a member of the House Sicilian Paternò who had moved to Naples, and is one of the villas that best represent the Neapolitan architecture of the eighteenth century, for his extremely rational traits of Palladian inspiration. The villa has hosted and inspired many famous men; in this place found comfort Lanusse the marshal who was at Napoleon's side in difficult battles Auerstadt and Aboukir. The building was also the protagonist of literary works that have praised the Neapolitan and European history. The Villa Faggella (once called Villa Paterno) stands majestically on a spur of the valley of San Rocco, with access from Via Cupa of Tozzole, a country side road, which branches off from via new San Rocco, at the end of the eponymous bridge . The villa is one of the finest expressions of the eighteenth century Neapolitan architecture, for its extremely clean lines, little pompous, but inspired by the austere style of Palladio. The villa has hosted Gioacchino Murat here fixed his Neapolitan residence. To its design including talented architects, who were the protagonists of Neapolitan in the transition from Rococo to Classicism (as Ignatius Cuomo, Gaetano Barba and Giovan Battista Nauclerio). The latter was responsible for the restructuring and transformation of the factory as it is today to the observer. |
