English: Warli folk paintings Warli folk paintings are famous in Maharashtra. Warli is the name of a group of people living in Western India. This form of art was noticed in the early seventies, and its roots can be traced to as early as the 10th century A.D. It is an expression of both daily and social events of the Warli folk. They use this form of painting decorate the walls of their houses. It is probably a means of transmitting folklore. Women are mainly engaged in the creation of these paintings. They are painted white (obtained from grinding rice into powder) on mud walls, usually depicting scenes of human figures engaged in hunting, dancing, sowing and harvesting
