Comment on authenticity

This was removed from the image page:

Controversy: This image appears to be digitally manipulated. The projectile coming out of the weapon would be traveling at such a high speed that a clear, crisp photograph of the project is extremely unlikely."

I have a camera, an ordinary Kodak Easyshare, that took a picture of Blackhawk helicopters in flight in Baghdad when I was there in 2005. The rotors of the helicopters appear to be completely stationary, without a hint of blur. The tip speed of the rotors on a UH-60 is about 700-800 fps, the muzzle velocity of a round fired from a M198 howitzer is around 1700 fps, just over twice that speed. I think it's pretty likely that the picture is unaltered, especially since there is a bit of blur around the tip and base of the projectile, and if they were using a sufficiently high-speed camera.

Timing of this image

How is it possible to time the capturing of the image in a way you can see the projectile just a few feet off the gun?
