Immature vs. Naive

[编辑]

The artwork illustrates activation of two types of T cells, namely one of the CD4+ T cells kind on the left (i.e. T cells expressing the CD4 glycoprotein on their surface, also called helper T cells) and on the right one of CD8+ T cells (T cells expressing CD8 on their surface, a.k.a. cytotoxic T cells). So far so good.

However, they are both labeled as being "immature", which contradicts their single-positive CD4+/CD8+ status since if they are indeed CD4+/CD8+ T cells it means they succeeded through maturation and got differentiated.

Now, I believe the author really meant "naive" instead of "immature" to describe that neither has been exposed to an antigen yet (through an antigen presenting cell), and as such for the artwork to describe how they get activated prior to an immune response (provided enough of them get activated).
