I think there is a problem with the accuracy of the inset map for area codes 914 and 516. See the English Wikipedia articles en:Area code 914 and en:Area code 516 for more information and references.

  • As far as I know, 516 is for Long Island only (mainly Nassau County). It does not extend north of NYC.
  • 914 is north of NYC and includes the part of New York State on Long Island Sound between the Bronx and the State of Connecticut. As I read it, 914 is currently shown in Connecticut, which is not correct.
  • Therefore:
    • The 516 box should be eliminated and the 516 label moved south to Long Island, west of the 631 area.
    • The current 914 label should be moved into the area north of New York City, currently shown as 516.
    • Where 914 is now, should be 203 instead (Fairfield County, Connecticut)
    • The borderline currently shown between 914 and the northern part of 516 need to be redrawn.
      • The east segment starting on Long Island Sound and going northwest to the lake (Kensico Reservoir) is OK. This is the border of New York and Connecticut, and also the border of 914 in New York and 203 in Connecticut.
      • The west segment starting at Kensico Reservoir and going west to the Hudson River is not correct. Instead, from the Reservoir this should go northeast along the northern border of Connecticut for just a fraction of an inch before hitting the edge of the inset. 914 continues up the Hudson River off the edge of the inset.
    • Since Connecticut is shown on the inset, it should be colored purple to match the main map.
  • On a separate issue, I just discovered that 203 in Connecticut has been overlaid with 475! See en:Area codes 203 and 475. So both references to 203 (main map and inset) should be redone as boxed 203 475.
