I visited the museum a couple of weeks ago and had the honor of seeing the sculpture. I have a question - the museum docent explained that the sculpture depicts a moment from the Haida tradition about the creation of men specifically and not of generic humans. Apparently there is an accompanying story of the creation of women. The caption in Wikipedia describes it as generic humanity, so I am curious whether the docent had it right. If she did, then I would encourage that change to the Wiki article, which while well-intended with its choice of inclusive language may actually be distorting the integrity of the Haida narrative.
