years?[編輯]

What years would this map be accurate to, besides 1985? Looking at w:List of national border changes since World War I it seems it would be fine for at least 1977-1990 (up until german re-unification), as there dont seem to be any major border changes during that time. Not sure if division of w:Western Sahara between Morocco and Mauritania 1975-79, or Israel's 1979-82 staged withdrawal of the Sinai under the w:Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty should be included. --Astrokey44 11:03, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[回覆]

Iraq/Saudi Arabia N.Z.[編輯]

The partition of the Iraq/Saudi Arabia Neutral Zone (hereafter known as N.Z.) is confusing. A treaty was signed between the countries in 1981, and ratified by 1983. However, the treaty was never registered with the UN. As the Gulf War loomed in 1991, Iraq withdrew from agreements with Saudi Arabia from 1968 to that point. Saudi Arabia responded by registering with the UN all agreements with Iraq up to that point. This should have killed the N.Z. for good. However, The CIA Factbook has this to say about the N.Z. in 1991:

joint administration by Iraq and Saudi Arabia; in December 1981, Iraq and Saudi Arabia signed a boundary agreement that divides the zone between them, but the agreement must be ratified before it becomes effective

After 1991, the ISO withdrew the ISO 3166-3 codes in 1993; the FIPS 10-4 code (and the CIA Factbook profile) was withdrawn in 1992. So, with all of this why is 1981 considered the ending date for this map? Simple, it's a date I can back up. I have a National Geographic map published in December 1981 with the N.Z. divided. The Straight Dope also cites the date as well. Hoshie 05:47, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[回覆]
