I am now quite convinced that the identification of this image with Edmund is erroneous. The illustration is treated in detail in John T. McQuillen "Who was St. Thomas of Lancaster? New Manuscript Evidence", in J.S. Hamilton (ed.) Fourteenth Century England IV (Boydell, Woodbridge, 2006), pp. 1-25. McQuillen clearly and convincingly identifies the earl of Lancaster in the illustration as Thomas, Edmund's son. I am aware that some sources, such as Prestwich's Edward I (plate 17, btw. p. 330–31), calls him Edmund, but McQuillen's treatment of the subject is the most thorough to date, and must be taken as authoritative. All pages identifying the earl as Edmund should be changed. Lampman (talk) 10:06, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[返信]
