Copyright[编辑]

I believe the copyright expiration notice to be incorrect, or at least likely to be incorrect. I believe the copyright law in question is that of the country that published the work from which this photograph was taken, and not, as implied by the comment below the notice, from the country where the picture was taken. Foremost, I would like some information on which printed work this photograph was taken from, but in the absence of this I think it more likely that the copyright of the photograph falls under UK copyright law. The source website claims that Fred Bremner wrote a memoir, My Forty Years in India in 1940, by which time the website also claims he retired to England (in 1923). That website also records two other volumes authored by Bremner: Types of the Indian Army and Baluchistan Illustrated 1900, both published in 1905, apparently before his retirement. Whether this picture is from any of those publications, and in which country that particular work was published is not recorded, but I think it most likely to be England or India, with the former being yet more likely, since the three works above at least seem to be an exposition of India or Indian life for a western reader not already knowledgeable of India.

More significantly, Fred Bremner's death is claimed by the website to be unknown, but no earlier than 1941, which would only just place this image in the public domain if the year is taken to be precisely 1941. Suggestions on what the correct copyright notice should be are more than welcome, since I'm not sure myself. Krea (talk) 19:59, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[回复]
