Informal name change proposal[编辑]

@Natanieluz and Nadzik: Any objections to changing the name to File:COVID-19 pandemic cases in Poland.svg? This would match all the changes from outbreak to pandemic, and there's no need for the capitalisation - this is English, not German. (The name change proposal started here. agree, we should do that. Natanieluz (留言) 19:05, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[回复]
I lodged a request - there seems to be a peer review step for renaming files at Commons, in contrast to en.Wikipedia. We'll see if someone responds soon. Boud (留言) 21:13, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[回复]

Colour ranges - next range needed around 29 March (optimistically: later)[编辑]

@Nadzik, Natanieluz, Hx7, and Megaemce: If the individual województwa statistically follow the overall PL pattern, and if the PL cases growth remains no faster than 1.3^d (+30%/day), then we have about 9 days, up to 29 March, before MZ hits 1000, since 1.3^9 is about 10.6. I think that changing our colour scheme for the województwa maps as the scale of infection counts grows is a bad idea, because to some degree people who check the pages regularly will mentally associate certain colours with certain scales. The dynamic map would be more difficult too. This is (I assume) why the colour scales in other maps are logarithmic: so that it has a fair chance of covering the full range of the epidemic.

However, now we have

  1. 410000 1000–9999 confirmed cases (not yet used)

  1. 710000 100–999 confirmed cases

  1. c80604 10–99 confirmed cases

  1. ee7070 2–9 confirmed cases

  1. ffC0C0 1 confirmed case

and I think it's not so easy to see the difference between 100-999 and 1000-9999. It would be good to change these two colours now, while one of them is not yet used at all, and one has only started to be used (in the PL maps; the others have shifted scales anyway). Proposal A is:

  1. 410000 1000–9999 confirmed cases (not yet used)

  1. 910000 100–999 confirmed cases

  1. c80604 10–99 confirmed cases

  1. ee7070 2–9 confirmed cases

  1. ffC0C0 1 confirmed case

Hitting the 10000/województwo level at the same exponential growth rate (1.3^d) would take about 18 days, to about 7 April, assuming that the lockdown doesn't slow the PL growth sufficiently by then (my guess is that the peak new-cases-per-day will happen sometime in the first half of April). Should we prepare for that? e.g. proposal B:

  1. 000000 10000–99999 confirmed cases (not yet used)

  1. 880000 1000–9999 confirmed cases (not yet used)

  1. b10000 100–999 confirmed cases

  1. c80604 10–99 confirmed cases

  1. ee7070 2–9 confirmed cases

  1. ffC0C0 1 confirmed case

Any arguments or preferences for/against any of these options? or alternative proposals? (Best to copy/paste a full set of legends and modify the RGB values to make other proposals, rather than modifying them in place, to reduce confusion of who supports which proposal. There's plenty of space on this talk page, which is unlikely to be controversial enough to make a mess.) Boud (留言) 16:50, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[回复]

  • For my animation I am currently using the map with the scale as follows (modified version of your proposal B):

  1. 000000 10000–99999 confirmed cases (not yet used)

  1. 880000 1000–9999 confirmed cases (not yet used)

  1. b10000 100–999 confirmed cases

  1. D80000 10–99 confirmed cases

  1. FE6764 2–9 confirmed cases

  1. FFBDBC 1 confirmed case
If it would be possible for you to adjust your map to these colours it would be great. It will be much harder for me to switch to your scale as I would have to prepare all the graphics one more time and I won't have that much time for a few days. Cheers! Nadzik (留言) 17:24, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[回复]
