The Centennial Bell Did Not "Replace" Liberty Bell

[编辑]

The Centennial Bell was not made to "replace" the Liberty Bell as this description suggests. (Or in spite of what Nicholas Cage's character Benjamin Franklin Bates says in the movie National Treasure.) According to the Paige/Kimball report on the history of the Liberty Bell, the bell was simply made to commemorate the 100th birthday of the United States. The Liberty Bell had been cracked for 35 years and out of the Independence Hall bell tower for 25 years when the Centennial Bell was commissioned. This entry was entered by a Park Ranger at Independence National Historical Park.

That's very well, but the contemporary report in the Illustrated London News says it was. Adam Cuerden (talk) 14:28, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[回复]
