According to Rohrbach et al in DP Bartholomew, RE Paull & KG Rohrbach (eds.), 2003, The Pineapple: Botany, Production and Uses, pineapples did not reach England until 1719.

http://www.ogtr.gov.au/pdf/ir/pineapple.pdf (page 6) states that pineapples were first successfully grown in England in 1712.

Despite the lack of consensus, I have yet to see a source that claims that pineapples were grown in England prior to 1712, so I am doubtful about the caption's accuracy.
