No sabia que Iran era aliado de EUA y que ademas Somalia es primermundista (en azul)

I've used Google Translate to get the gist of what you are saying; hopefully you can as well. Iran was pro-USA until the Iranian Revolution in 1979 (note that this map depicts the world in 1975). I have no idea about Somalia. Brightgalrs (talk) 03:20, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[回复]

On Somalia, Iran and Others[编辑]

Somalia, under the communist Siad Barre, basically initially was pro-Soviet, but aligned itself with the United States around the mid-1970's, primarily due to a geopolitical shift on the part of the Soviets wherein they recognized and realigned themselves with the new Ethiopian Derg government. As far as Iran goes, you're absolutely right; though it may not have always portrayed itself as explicitly allied with either major faction, it was definitely a pro-US state. Some other points of contention are that Chile, Argentina, Brazil and some other Latin American nations should be portrayed as aligned with the US, and likely South Africa should be as well.

Somalia has been corrected. Iran needs no correction, as you have pointed out. I do not know about the Latin American countries' alliances, so feel free to correct the map with information you have about them. South Africa should indeed be blue given their role in the Angolan civil war etc., and so it has been corrected. Vorziblix (talk) 18:47, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[回复]

Angola[编辑]

Angola was backed by communist Cuba, which means it was definitely not first world. It fought with communist help against South Africa to liberate Namibia. So advise you to edit the picture to make Angola red or green. Else I will remove it.

Angola formally became independent on 11 November 1975. This map, however, is intended to portray the world in mid-1975, shortly before Angola's independence. Angola was still considered Portuguese territory at the time pictured, so it must be colored blue, as Portugal was an ally of the United States. Vorziblix (talk) 18:47, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[回复]
Given that there seems to be no more debate, I'll remove the disputed accuracy tag. Vorziblix (talk) 11:53, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[回复]

Criteria[编辑]

So what criteria are we using for inclusion of countries in the First World Alliances? Obviously NATO and SEATO members are included. We include Iran, a CENTO member, but not Pakistan. Though Pakistan withdrew from SEATO after Bangladeshi independence, could it have withdrawn from CENTO as well?

Also, what's our basis for including Oman, the UAE, and South Africa? As Pipeafcr asked, if we're including them on the basis of military cooperation (and was South Africa really that close with the Free World, aside from fighting communists in Angola?), shouldn't we also include Colombia? —Quintucket (talk) 04:50, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[回复]

Colour scheme[编辑]

@FanofMultimedia123, you reverted the colour scheme that was changed last month without asking, and in the process, changed the allegiance of multiple countries. I believe, as I'm sure @DecafPotato, who made the original change to grey, that grey is a better, less distracting choice for countries that do not fall into either of the two camps. It's a neutral colour, for neutral countries.

In an attempt to reach WP:Consensus, I'm opening a discussion about this here. In the meantime, I will be reverting your edit, as it doesn't take into account the allegiance changes made since the neutral country colour scheme switch. If you feel strongly that your edit was justified, it would be better if you were to make your changes to the latest revision, rather than reverting, which causes unintended, separate, changes.

Hello! Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, with the change I wanted to have more consistency with other membership maps on Wikipedia/Commons with the default gray used to indicate neutrality. After all, not all neutral countries were even part of the Non-Aligned Movement, and it seems weird to have a color (also a kind of distraction one in my opinion) to label the countries that aren't part of the conflict depicted in the map. Don't worry, you're not late. I agree with your reasoning: blue is western-aligned, red is eastern-aligned, grey is separate from that whole conflict, not aligned with other side, but definitely not all aligned with each other either. XA1dUXvugi (留言) 07:55, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[回复]

Date of the map[编辑]

About the date: The Portuguese colonies got independence in 1974-1975 and were led by Communists and alligned themselves with the Soviet Union: -Guinea-Bissau got independence in 10 September 1974. -Mozambique in 25 June 1975. -Cape Verde in 5 July 1975. -São Tomé and Príncipe in 12 July 1975. -Angola in 11 November 1975. -East Timor declared independence in 28 November 1975 (not recognized).

Moreover: -In Ethiopia, the Derg overthrew the government in 12 September 1974. -The Cambodian Civil War ended in 17 April 1975 (fall of Phnom Penh to the Khmer Rouge). -The Vietnam war ended in 30 April 1975 (fall of Saigon to the North Vietnamese). -The Laotian Civil War ended in 2 December 1975 (fall of Vientiane to the Pathet Lao).

So, the date of the map is between 30 April and 24 June 1975.

Errors: Guinea-Bissau should be colored red, it was independent since 10 September 1974, governed by PAIGC. Cambodia should be colored red as the civil war ended in 17 April 1975 with Khmer Rouge victory. Human Transistor (留言) 14:57, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[回复]

I colored red Guinea-Bissau and Combodia and corrected the date. Human Transistor (留言) 19:18, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[回复]
