Oman[編輯]

Oman was not a colony, Oman was independent, so please can anyone fix this ? --Hamodi1234 (talk) 20:44, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[回覆]

To fix[編輯]

I have copied the image across from wikipedia, though I see a few things to fix.. dont have time to check 500 years of history of the entire world at the moment. One thing that stands out is the southern parts of Nigeria shown too early and too much as British control. --Astrokey44 09:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[回覆]

There are a couple of problems with your 1822 and 1885 colonization maps. Firstly, Eritrea was not a province of Turkey at this time. What was under Ottoman rule (it should say Ottoman Empire, not Turkey, btw, which did not exist at the time) was the island city of Massawa and its mainland counterpart Arkiko. So for 1822, there should be a small dot right around those two cities that goes to Turkey, but nothing else. For 1885, you have it as controlled by Italy (all of Eritrea), which is also a bit off. At that time, Italy controlled the island of Massawa and Arkiko as well, which it had just acquired from Egypt (who was controlling it on behalf of the Ottomans) via Great Britain in 1885. It wasn't until 1890 that the colony of Eritrea was founded with similar borders to its current size. For instance, see the Battle of Dogali, which was fought just 10 miles outside of Massawa in 1887, which resulted from Italian incursion into Ethiopian territory (i.e. Dogali, just 10 miles outside was outside of its jurisdiction). Also, the port of Assab should appear as a dot in the southeast owned by Italy at this time (starting 1882, although an Italian shipping company bought it from the Afar sultan in 1869).

Also, your maps for periods after 1557 should show the Ottoman empire controlling Massawa/Arkiko and Zeila, in Somaliland (Somalia). — ዮም ዮም | (Yom) | TalkcontribsEthiopia 19:06, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[回覆]

Russian Empire[編輯]

I have a problem with the "Russian empire/colonization" being labelled as far as the existence of the Soviet Union. For the many years of Soviet existence, this map shows the territory of Kazhakstan, Ukraine, etc as "Russian colonization" when they were autonomous republics of the USSR. I recommend this be corrected. Mnmazur (talk)

1938[編輯]

1938 map is incomplete. Ethiopia was an Italian colony, recognized by the other colonial powers. --Moxmarco (對話) 08:11, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[回覆]

Belgian-Congo[編輯]

Belgian-Congo became independent in 1960. So it should be included in the 1959 map. --__ wɘster 18:02, 28 January 2018 (UTC) — 以上未簽名的留言是由該使用者加入的: Volum-ion (留言 • 貢獻) 17:33, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[回覆]

Corrections[編輯]

As of 1492, Denmark had none colonies. Both Greenland, Iceland and Faroe Islands was under the Kingdom of Norway at that time. Not before Norway was subjected to Kingdom of Denmark, that these lands followed. Additional, Jan Mayen should not be colorized since the island never has been part of Denmark, nor Norway before the 20th century. Can someone correct this? --Volum-ion (對話) 17:33, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[回覆]

Corrections needed to Indian subcontinent[編輯]

There is a giant leap between 1822 and 1885, when the whole subcontinent is treated as colonized, but large areas were never colonized and were never British territory. Hyderabad, Kashmir, and the other princely states should not be shown as colonies. Moonraker (對話) 05:25, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[回覆]

The Eastern Bloc's status during the Cold War[編輯]

I wonder if it would be best to include the Eastern Bloc (Warsaw Pact) countries as a part of the Soviet Empire (either the same color as the Soviet Union or a separate color--perhaps purple dashed with gray) during the Cold War. I mean, Yes, they weren't officially part of the Soviet Union, but they were Soviet satellite states in a similar mold to the satellite states that Germany briefly had in Eastern Europe after the 1918 Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. I second that. Baskak (對話) 13:49, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[回覆]

Denmark and Sweden[編輯]

all maps after 1536 should represent Denmark (Denmark - Norway from 1523 to 1815, when the kingdoms of Denmark and Norway we're separated) as an colonial power (until the German invasion in ww2, and after it was liberated by the allies), including the colonies and territories such as:

North America/Caribbean:

-Danish Greenland (1814–present)

-the Danish West Indies (1666–1917) (consistent of the following colonies/settlements:

  • St. Jan (1666–1917)
  • St. Thomas (1666–1917)
  • St. Croix (1666–1917)

Asia:

-danish India (consistent of the following settlements:

  • Tranquebar (1620–1845)
  • Serampore (1755–1845)
  • Nicobar Islands (1756–1848/1868).

Europe/Atlantic:

-Danish Iceland (1536/1814–1944)

-Norway (during Denmark - Norway from 1523 to 1815)

  • Fort William (Ghana) in Anomabu (1657–1659)
  • Small base near Ningo from 1784 to 1850

in addition, there should be a map in 1559, to represent the Bishopric of Courland (Danish colony/territory from 1559 to 1585)

with Sweden, the same thing, all maps from 1638 to 1663, in 1733 and from 1784 to 1878 should represent Sweden as an Colonial Power. including the colonies such as:
