This historic picture does not show Corydoras punctatus (which comes from Surinam). This drawing of d'Orbigny shows a fish that he sent 1827 from Uruguay to Valenciennes. 1840 Valenciennes erroneously called that fish Callichthys punctatus (Valenciennes in d'Orbigny Voy., dans l'Amér. mérid., Atl. ichth., Plates V, picture 1).
