This image is incorrect. The leaving group for the addition of a monomer triphosphate onto the 3' replicating strand should be a pyrophosphate (two phosphates attached). Instead, the image shows two inorganic phosphates leaving independently. This would only occur in the presence of a pyrophosphatase enzyme, which would cleave the pyrophosphate into two inorganic phosphates.
