An image like this would be much more useful if the technical details of how it was created were included (signal source and instrumentation).

JPEG is wrong format

This is a very good example of a sort of image where JPEG is completely the wrong format to use. It creates an excessively large file, with unnecessary distortions of the image. PNG or, depending on the instrumentation, SVG, would be better. These better formats can only be created from the original source, not from the current JPEG image.
