Assignments[編集]

85.65.14.98 brought to my attention that there is an ambiguity about the assignments of the people in this picture. The assignments here were copied from the caption found in the lecture by Samuel Goudsmit on the history of the discovery of the electron spin. In that caption the person on the very right is identified as Ralph Kronig, and the second person from the right as Enrico Fermi. The problem now is that if we compare with Image:Kronig.jpg that we see a picture which has been assigned to Ralph Kronig, that assignment appears to come from the Niels Bohr Library. However, if we compare this putative portrait of Ralph Kronig with this photo from Goudsmit's talk it appears that that the portrait of Kronig has been cropped from this group's photo of Ehrenfest's students. However, Kronig's portrait appears to correspond to what in Goudsmit's talk has been assigned to Enrico Fermi! So now I am at a loss: Who is Fermi, and who is Kronig? Any help in resolving this riddle is appreciated

In the mean time I have resolved this issue myself. First of all, the same picture can be found in the AIP Emilio Segrè Visual Archives. Secondly, I have found another picture of Ralph Kronig from the same period, see Pauli's Assistants. That pretty much settles it. Thank you 85.65.14.98 for straightening this out.
